7 New Netflix Biopics to Look out for in 2023
As the leading streaming service out there, people are anxiously awaiting the next Netflix film, Netflix original, or Netflix documentary to come out in the Netflix family. Here are some of the best shows (in our opinion of course) to look out for this coming 2023. And as always, if there is one that hits home, we will definitely look deeper into it with Factual America. Now, many of these titles will be documentaries and Netflix originals because we love shows that have an impact.
If you're looking for the latest Netflix comedy or new movies with bad guys and dragon princes then this list isn't it. But if you're looking for new titles that thought-provoking then you're at the right place.
Rustin
One upcoming Netflix Documentary that we're excited to watch is Rustin. Directed by George C. Wolf and starting Chris Rock, Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman and others, this is a biopic on the gay civil right activist Bayard Rustin. For those who don't know him, he's the name behind the 1963 March on Washington where over 200,000 demonstrators took marched for jobs and freedom in the nation's capital.
It's also worth noting that this comes from Higher Grounds Productions, a production company founded in 2018 by former President Barack Obama.
Maestro
Another biopic that we're excited about, this time it's about the life of famous composer Leonard Bernstein and his relationship with Felicia. The Netflix documentary slash biopic is starred and produced by Bradley Cooper. The film has been criticized for Bradley Cooper's use of a prosthetic nose to portray Bernstein.
We can't wait for this film to be released by Netflix. There's still no release date, but we're keeping our eyes opened.
Society of the Snow
Another biopic slash documentary film by Netflix, this is a Netflix original that we're eagerly awaiting. Society of the Snow is about the doomed Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 which went down in October 1972. This biopic is about the stories of the Andes survivors of that flight. If it sounds familiar, the story has already been once been told before in the critically-acclaimed movie "Alive: The story of the Andes Survivors"
A Million Miles Away
A Million Miles Away is another biopic about Jose M. Hernandez. A story about how Hernandez, the first Mexican-American Astronaut went through rejection 11 times before being selected by NASA. Michael Pena of Narcos fame will be playing Hernandez. A release date has not been planned yet.
Dr. Rapp
While not yet in production, Netflix has won the rights to the story of Dr. Sherman Hershfield. Hershfield is a neurologist from Beverly Hills who practiced medicine in the San Fernando Valley. After suffering a stroke, the good doctor suffered a really interesting side effect that changed his life forever, he couldn't stop speaking in rhyme. While this may sound like your typical Netflix comedy or tv series, this is actually a the true story of Dr. Rapp. John Hamburg is set to write and direct this epic biopic and we just can't wait!
Shout It Out Loud
Directed by Joachim Rønnin, Shout It Out lout is rumored to be a biopic about Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. For those that don't know them, they're the names behind the ultra-controversial and influential band KISS. Whether you loved the band or hated them, KISS was, and is, definitely one of the bands that shaped the American Music industry.
Joachim Rønning is a Norwegian filmmaker best known for Pirates of the Caribbean, Maleficent, and Kon-Tiki. Judging from his previous works, this should be a really interesting ride!
No release date is planned yet and there aren't any details on who will be wearing the iconic KISS face paint yet, but stay tuned!
Tenzing
The biography by Ed Doughlas of Tenzing Norgay is slated to become one of the newest Netflix documentaries. Tenzing: Hero of Everest is about the life of Tenzing Norgay. Everyone has heard of Sir Edmund Hillary, one of the first to have been confirmed to reach the summit of Mount Everest, but little is known about the sherpa that helped him reach the summit.
