Matthew Sherwood
The Search for Truth in a Post-truth World
For the past five years Matthew Sherwood has been the host and co-producer of the Factual America podcast. In that time he has interviewed Emmy- and Oscar-winning documentary filmmakers, award-winning novelists, acclaimed screenwriters and stars of the screen and catwalk. Factual America has become a mainstay of film interview podcast charts.
As part of Matthew’s personal quest for truth, Factual America is expanding its outreach to include leading voices in the online world, who can shed a light on what is truly going on in the US. It is clear that mainstream media offer few if any insights beyond the standard narrative. As a result, Matthew has started reaching out to alternative voices – including those labelled “alt-right” and “alt-left”, as well as “free speech bros” – who can offer unique insights into what is happening in 2025. Matthew has also starting offering his own personal observations, drawing on his experiences as an American expat living in the UK. He hopes Factual America will help American and foreign audiences alike understand what are the driving forces behind a resurgent and vibrant America.
The long and winding road to Alamo Pictures
A Texan born and bred, Matthew followed his passion for world affairs first to the East Coast – Washington, DC and Boston – and eventually to London to work for The Economist. There he served as lead North America editor for The Economist’s B2B publishing arm, covering such events as Hurricane Katrina, the 2006 mid-term elections, the US housing market bubble and the onset of the global financial crisis. Matthew later took his expertise to the corporate world where he advised clients on the geopolitical trends affecting their business and operating environments. After a stint as a CEO of an education non-profit, Matthew has returned to writing for publications and helping diverse audiences understand the global developments impacting on their lives.
Matthew draws on a wealth of experience writing for publications, interviewing world leaders, chairing roundtables and presenting at conferences. Sought out for his expertise, he has been quoted in major newspapers – including The Economist and The New York Times – and has appeared on news media channels across the globe.
It is Matthew’s constant searching for truth that has also naturally led him to documentaries and Alamo Pictures. Besides hosting and co-producing Factual America, he also is a development executive for Alamo. Combining a keen eye for a good story and a head for business, Matthew loves helping filmmakers get their ideas off the ground, financed and in front of the widest audiences possible.
Besides living in the US and UK, Matthew has studied in Estonia and Russia and worked in Prague. He now lives just outside the historic city of York in the north of England with his wife and four children. In addition to watching the latest documentaries, he does his best to keep up to date with his favourite American sports and connected to friends and family across the globe.
